The Gaim-IM2Email plugin will translate IMs into emails and send them via SMTP.
I created this plugin to send emails from my mobile phone without having to pay extra each month for T-Mobile's web service. Since AIM messages simply count as sending a text message, I came up with the idea of sending a specially crafted IM and having Gaim relay it out via SMTP.
Simply activate the plugin on your home computer, set the correct "Allowed Sender", "SMTP Host", and "SMTP Port" in the preferences pane, and log on. Log on to AIM on your mobile phone and send a correctly formatted message to the screenname of your home computer. The formatting of the message is explained below:
Line # Example Data Explanation ===== ============ =========== 1 Gaim-IM2Email Signals plugin to parse IM 2 john@smith.com To field 3 jane@doe.com From field 4 Sample Subject Subject field 5 Hi Jane, Message body . ... . ... . ... N Adios!
The 1st line must always be "Gaim-IM2Email" or the plugin will ignore the rest of the message.
